A is for Alexa

Shh! Don't tell my local authority but although I claim a single occupancy rebate on the Community Charge, there's someone else in the house, name of Alexa.

Alexa and I interact quite frequently.  She answers questions, wishes me "Good Morning" and tells me how many sleeps it is to Christmas (yes, I still ask in January).  Her biggest job though is to get excellent actors to read my favourite books to me.  Recently as I fall asleep I've been enjoying listening to "Cranford" by written by Mrs Gaskell and read by Prunella Scales.

And when I asked Alexa if she is happy she told me she is always happy when she's helping me!

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with "that woman". But I do find her useful for keeping my shopping list - when I discover something running out, I can just say "add eggs to my shopping list", and on Tuesday mornings I ask "read me my bin calendar" and she tells me if it is regular or recycling. The children chat to her and use the story creation game, or ask for riddles about cheetahs, or cake, or other random topics. Have you tried saying "Alexa I love you"? The response is amusing (the first time. Once Rosie started doing it daily it began to pall) I like that you can whisper and she will whisper back.

    1. Story creation sounds interesting! What's the command to give?

  2. We have 3 in our house, I adore all music, and she plays whatever I ask for, we do pay a small charge to access all music, we have a nigh time play list which I love at bedtime. Will our grandson often ask her for information, she does have a place in our lives, we also have a command for her to turn everything under her control off at night, lights with special bulbs and plugs for TV and computer, where we can't get to the sockets easily.

    1. Think of jobs for Siri to do - as Ang says she helps with shopping lists. She will sem a little more friendly if she makes herself useful.

  5. No Alexa here, our youngest has her living with him. We have a Google Nest and I wake her up saying "Hey Google". I get mine to tell me jokes every so often. More of the groaner type but some are actually quite funny.

    God bless.
