Autumn has arrived, and with it comes the annual invitation to become thoughtful. There is something about autumn that encourages introspection. Perhaps it is the cooler evenings, or the golden light, or the fact that there are fewer opportunities to sit outside pretending I am gardening
As I said a few
days ago, trees have the right idea. They simply let go of things without worrying
about it. But I am not a tree.
I find myself
thinking about the year so far. What have I done? What have I enjoyed? What
have I learned?
I’d planned quite
a few days out but the excessive heat made them seem very unappealing. I’ve learned not to over plan for this woman
proposes, God disposes. I have learned
that what I have thought of as excessive heat is just a good reason to laze.
And maybe the
best thing I can do is to look at autumn herself. Life doesn’t have to be about constantly
growing, achieving and improving.
Sometimes the best thing to do is simply to slow down and enjoy
being.

I so agree with your post today and think I need to reflect about how I will spend the autumn and winter season. Like you, my summer was curtailed by the very hot weather. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI'm quite looking forward to my hibernaculum and I Have Plans.
DeleteI think many people feel they missed out on summer activities due to the heat.
ReplyDeleteJust have to make the most of fine days of Autumn and winter instead.
I shall do my very best!
DeleteI wiped off a couple of events this month that would involve too much eating. Dan concurred. One of the events involved a big crowd and I just don't do well with small talk. Felt good to clear the calendar.
ReplyDeleteYes, decluttering the calendar feels very good.
DeleteI do like your introspection. It is still hot here (105F/40C) which felt hotter due to the humidity; a bit too warm to do anything much other than sit in front of a fan and go online. By the way, Blogger has stopped showing new posts so, I'm visiting people's blogs to see if they've posted anything new. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the last time my reading list updated was about three days ago. The number of visits to my blog has dropped - it's so much harder to find who has updated.
