So far

I have to confess I am struggling!  On 27th May I committed myself to writing twenty posts by the end of June.  Since then I have written ten so I am just about on track.  It's important to me to do this as I think it may be the best way of reviving my blogging mojo but that mojo seems distinctly moribund.  Today is St Barnabas Day and he is the great encourager so I shall take heart from him!

So, what has been happening here at Frugal Follies?  I haven't yet got a date for surgery and, truth to tell, I am quite happy to wait.  The pain isn't bad at the moment and I am very aware that there are many who are suffering more than me.  I am continuing to lose weight and have shed just three pounds since 28th May.  I'm not walking much though.

Jack has been twice and my garden is looking good.  It's a very small garden but I love it.  Jack built me a little patio and I delight in having meals or just coffees out there.  Jack has now toddled off to the family caravan on the coast but his daughter won't let him idle his time away: his job this weekend is to wash the exterior of the van.  Just to encourage him, here are pictures of the veg plot on 30th May and another today, less than two weeks later.

I have one small worry: he has threatened to bring me a present back from the seaside.  He is also worried: I've got a present for him and he doesn't know what it is.

But that's my eleventh post written!

  1. Garden bed looking quite tidy. What is the green leaf plant in second photo - spinach?
I'm writing this on our second full day without hot water. Hot water heater went out Wednesday evening or that's when we noticed. Needs a very tiny part that wasn't stocked by plumber who installed this heater 4 months ago. Part will be shipped to us. Crossing fingers that it happens early next week. Our well water is incredibly cold so no cold showers possible. Did go for hot one at Emily's yesterday and tonight heated water in hot pot and filled bathroom sink to wash. No fun!

    1. OOh, that sounds uncomfortable! I hope the weather isn't too hot!
On the right of the photo is potatoes. Otherwise there is lettuce, radishes, beetroot, leeks, spring onions, onions and sundry brassicas.

  2. What a difference a few days can make when growing veg/salad. Hope Jack has a wonderful break away. Well done on losing weight, it is something that I need to do, the pounds have been creeping on since lockdown.

    1. Last year they didn't so much creep as sprint! I had lost 7lbs a year since 2014 but 2020 was a disaster. However, i think my brain has now adjusted to the idea that life has changed and some of those changes will be permanent so there's no point in comfort eating.

  3. Any weight success is success. I'm about to do a Saturday weigh in myself.

    1. Weight loss doesn't get any easier as we get older. I had a period last week when I just couldn't stop eating and it wasn't always the best of choices.

  4. I generally stay around the same weight from year to year, but that means I stay overweight. But I had success with a Low Carb/High Fat way of eating when I lost a stone and a half and, more importantly, my bloods showed I was no longer classed as diabetic. I felt so much better - more energy, slept well, no brain fog, etc. so can anyone explain why I allowed myself to gradually revert to old eating habits and am now back to that previous 'overweight' with all the same symptoms? Now trying again, with the extra proviso of eating gluten-free.

    1. I had a "pre-diabetic" warning eleven yeast ago. Over the past eight years I've lost five stone but I can't say I feel any better. Maybe I need to lose a lot more before that happens. The only real benefit has been that my self respect has rocketed.
