The Horticultural Enhancer

I am a very happy woman this evening.

Annie-the-home-enhancer and Jack have both been here today and my house and garden both look great.  Annie has cleaned right through and the house feels great.

Jack said he'd be here by 8.30am so of course the doorbell sounded just after 7am.  I'll forgive him.

He came bearing gifts including these lovely roses from his garden.

He worked his usual magic and my garden is coming along nicely.

He has even allowed me to keep these poppies even though he loathes them himself.

He now has a new title.  He is no longer just a gardener.  He is now a Horticultural Enhancer

  1. What lovely roses. They have done very well this year in all parts of the country.

    1. Jack is (rightly) very proud of his roses and while they are in season he always brings me a bunch.

    1. Yes he is. But yesterday his fingers were very dirty! To my advantage!

  4. Doesn't it make a difference when you've got a clean house and an orderly garden. Those roses are beautiful. Mine have been late this year, in fact, only one of my rose bushes is blooming at the moment but it's putting on a brilliant display, the best it's ever been.

    1. I have only one rose bush in my garden but am planning on getting Gertrude Jekyll very soon. I really enjoy the ones Jack brings.

  5. What a delight to have a clean house and a tidy garden. Send them both my way, I could do with a little help.

  6. I think Jack would love to come your way! Annie would arrive with a husband and three lively children!

  7. Clean house, tidy garden sounds lovely - and the roses are beautiful. If I had a 'House-Enhancer' I would feel obliged to do a Spring Clean before she came! Those poppies are gorgeous - why does Jack loathe them? I wish they would grow in my garden, but they don't, despite my efforts. Must be the wrong soil.

    1. Jack was a farm worker and in agriculture poppies are definitely an enemy. I think old habits die hard.
I tidy before Annie comes: if i didn't she would have to move stuff and I would then have to find it but she hates me to clean before she comes. She says she likes to see where she has been and who am I to deny her job satisfaction?

    2. Aha, of course. Poppies in amongst the crop are not a good thing, are they? But they would be made very welcome in my little patch. And I can understand why you would tidy your things away before allowing Annie to beautify everything - and derive pleasure from her job. Sometimes, I pretend I'm the cleaner who has come to my home and I end up doing an excellent job of it in record time.

  8. Jack has some lovely roses. He wouldn't want to come across the pond and be my Horticultural Enhancer would he?

    God bless.
