It seems ages since I went crafting but yesterday our Federation of Women's Institutes had a craft day and of course, I was there. Just two projects to show you.
This Christmas tree is made from milk bottle tops which have been padded with wadding and then covered and stitched together. I may put a cinnamon stick as a trunk and maybe a few star anise - it will smell nice as well as look good.
This is a simple purse but it felt as though I was doing origami. I like the design but if I make it again I shall use better contrasted fabric.
Very pretty designs. What is a milk bottle top nowadays???
ReplyDeleteThey have rather changed from the ones everyone used to save for Guide Dogs haven't they. Someone used to collect the modern plastic ones for something but I can't remember who!
DeleteAt the Christmas tree festival in Stowmarket church they have these bottle top trees on the end of every pew, someone must have collected a lot of tops! They were also selling kits to make them a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'd seen them but never made one. I think this will be my one and only.
DeleteI might pinch this idea for a Christmas tree. Lovely makes.
ReplyDeleteBlogs are the best when it comes for ideas to pinch.
DeleteThe little Christmas tree is very cute and looks like a great way to use up some snippets of fabric - I'll file it away for when I have more free time.
ReplyDeleteWhen can you ever find free time, Elaine? You always sound so busy!
ReplyDeleteBTW bought some acrylic paints last week. I don't think the soldiers will get made for this Christmas, but maybe next year . . .
Such a lovely idea to use bottle tops, they certainly make for a beautiful decoration. A great way of using up fabric scraps.
ReplyDeleteAnd we all get plenty of scraps!
DeleteI have made the trees lots of times now with various groups and even non sewers love doing them! Cinnamon sticks work well although you need the bigger ones. I love the little bag which I haven’t seen before and agree that two fabrics would be better. Happy crafting!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't entirely happy with the way we made the trees - we sewd the padded tops together. If I make them again the glue gun will be in use! What methods have you tried?
DeleteGlue gun is my friend and we stuck them onto card which we drew round first before covering the shapes. I found the older ladies didn’t have the strength to sew the padded shapes together. I’m a voluntary tutor with a charity which upcycles so always searching for low cost ideas. I make lotus drawstring bags which I found on utube-an Australian (I think) lady does the best one from two squares of fabric sewn together. Easy and wonderful for making various sizes.
DeleteThank you! Off to YouTube for me!
Deletecute stuff!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes!
DeleteWhat great little makes, and very clever. I don't know where people find their inspiration from.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me too!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, that little purse is so cute. I can just see it hanging on a tree with a candy cane or couple of chocolates tucked in it.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Ooh, worry not! I have plans for it to go on my tree!
DeleteI made a felt tree and glued it to cardboard. I pierced holes and out 99p fairy lights through it looked great. Your looks great, I love the purse to although I don't think the photo does the amount of work that's gone into it justice.
ReplyDeleteI like your tree idea. Mine is backed with felt so it won't be so easy. The purse was rather labour intensive.
