And so to June

A whole new month - how exciting!

I've mentioned Action for Happiness before.  It's a site I often visit because I think happiness is important.  Each month there is a different focus.   Last month it was Meaningful May, earlier there was Friendly February, Mindful March and Active April.  Now it is Joyful June - how lovely is that!!!

There's a calendar for June.

I've already made my decision to be thankful for good things every day this month.  I won't be doing all the actions but there are some great ideas here.  Anybody else up for it?

  1. I wish I could share your view on happiness. I thought retirement would be nothing at all all day long but it is nothing but hard work, job after job, the downside of being single I suppose, do we ever get to rest.

    1. I'm sorry to hear you feel like that. I too am single and retired. I had a mental break-down when I was 58 and had to retire early with insufficient income so I had to dip into my savings. Initially my earning potential was very limited as my sister was terminally ill and I was needed as a carer but as soon as I could I started to work at all sorts of little sidelines. My pension income is now larger and I don't need to work but I like to do so.

You have given me a couple of ideas for future posts! Thank you.

    2. I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so down, Sarah. Yes, it's hard if you are single and every job in the home and garden has to be done by yourself. But perhaps a different mindset might help? And if you can afford to, occasionally employ someone to do the really difficult jobs (we have a window cleaner every 8 weeks.)
My advice, for what it's worth, is not to think of housework as job-after-job, but making your environment in which you live as pleasant as possible for yourself. Set yourself time frames in which you have to do jobs so that you don't get distracted (I'm very guilty of being easily distracted!) and then say to yourself, "I will give up on housekeeping at 1 pm and then have a nice lunch" and then lay the table for yourself properly, with pretty china and table linen. Plan your housekeeping, shopping, etc, so that you give yourself time simply for yourself. (I prefer to think of housework as housekeeping; it's just a change of name, but in that there is a whole world of difference.)

  2. What a great action calendar, all very achievable and small things which could make a difference to your own, or someone else's, day. I think we do sometimes have to make an effort to be happy, it's much easier to look on the dark side at times but we do have things to be thankful for.

  3. There is something about a Plan, made by someone else, which doesn't appeal to me! :-))))))

Oh I know "what" it is! I am a Rebel at heart! Do not want to be told what to do, or how to do it. Want to make my own decisions. My own plan. Etc. (The result of much uncertainty, in childhood)

So I accept "how I am." And that is why, I never can "get into" so many wonderful ideas, in Blog Land.

But it sounds churlish, to say it! -moan-

But I am happy for good things! I want to remember the good things, for which I should be happy. I want to think more of them, than all the big/little/picky stuff, which I could put my focus on. I do!!!! :-)

    1. I quite enjoy a plan - but rarely stick to it! I just like new ideas, especially when they are given to me in small chunks.

  4. Thank you for the link to the website - I'm going to take some time and go through their site. Life isn't perfect for most of us - there is always some difficulty somewhere - I think it's how we handle things.
I was laid off and then forced into an early retirement and wasn't financially ready. But - I am wrapping my mind around part-time work and cobbling a few things together that I never would have considered in the past - so it's certainly not dull! How's that for a positive spin! :-)
