Maulifuff is a word which has definitely grabbed me, but another word I want to appropriate is hibernaculum. It's what Roman soldiers used to call their winter quarters but these days it also means or a place for over-wintering plants, or the lair of a wintering animal. The web has lots of information on building hibernacula for wild animals but I want to use the word for the lair of a wintering Mary.
I've acquired a new fireplace which has certainly made my sitting room feel more cosy. I won't be using real candles but I hope to acquire more LED jobbies. Last year I treated myself to a heated throw which will soon be in use. It's not only cosy, it's also a very energy conscious way of keeping warm.
My next task will be to tackle the dining room so I can use it as a sewing room. I'm not the only person who uses "spare" rooms as dumping ground but I am pretty good at it. My hibernaculum can't just be pretty and cosy: come the spring I want to know that I have used the time well.

I have loads of battery operated small string lights, I get the ones which light for 6 hours, turn off and then come back on the same time the next day, saves going around turning them all off.
ReplyDeleteThey sound lovely.
DeleteMy back bedroom is definitely a dumping ground, currently a total tip in the middle of reorganisation. But the blankets have gone back into the lounge for winter warmth.
ReplyDeleteBlankets always make me feel cosy.
DeleteI have blankets and a knitted poncho, essentially a shawl-cum-blanket which stays put, all stacked on the back of the settee! Our 'dining room' is a joke- time for a clear out!
ReplyDeleteIt may be that have a Room of Doom is a characteristic of the Mauifuff Sisterhood
DeleteI must confess I've broken the club rules already, yesterday I thought I might give the sewing room a bit of a tidy up. Well I happened to come across a few orphan quilt blocks and it's 7.20pm now and I'm going to hand sew the binding on my new lap quilt while watching the TV tonight. If I'm honest I'm a bit pleased with myself. From Shirley. ps we are coming into summer sometime soon 31c today but down to low 20's the rest of the week and showers.
ReplyDeleteTut , tut. You must try harder!
DeleteThere's a Hibernaculum for bats at Ickworth House!
ReplyDeleteI think I too am batty.
DeleteYou're making it quite cozy there. Our woodstove is great at putting out heat. Chimney sweep comes today so we couldn't have it going yesterday though we could have used that heat.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could have a wood stove - I have to have a pretend one instead.
DeleteI like the idea of a heated throw so may investigate further. Our spare room is currently tidy as we had to use it for a couple of weeks while our own room was being decorated. I now need to tackle the study because lots or random things have found their way into it. Catriona
ReplyDeleteHeated throws are wonderful. I got mine from Lakeland.
