I am most richly blessed.

I asked for strength that I might achieve;

I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health that I might do greater things;

I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy;

I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men

I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;

I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for,

but everything that I hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered;

I am, among all people, most richly blessed.

  1. It takes a special person to realize that, while you didn't receive what was asked for, what was given was a bigger blessing.

  5. This is such a profound reflection on gratitude and the quiet ways God answers our prayers. It beautifully captures the truth that sometimes what we receive is not what we expect, but it is precisely what we need to grow in faith, humility, and joy. Your words are a gentle reminder that God’s blessings often come in forms we might overlook at first, yet they enrich life more deeply than we could imagine. I’d be glad if you also take a moment to read some of my latest posts.
