During that time we learned new skills. I learned to do far more on line. We had on line classes, we had to get used to on line banking and shopping and we learned to "visit" one another on line. I still lead a weekly worship on line.
But I had to learn to use Zoom and Facetime and the like to communicate with family and friends. My knitting group (none of our members is in the first flush of youth) held fortnightly sessions to knit and natter.
And I think that is something I have gained and retained. This morning I will be having a face-to-face (on line) meet up with a friend in Leicester. For many years we just met up twice a year, and we still do that, but now we have a monthly catch up with each of sitting in our favourite chairs at home.
And last night I chatted with a friend who is on a cruise ship off the coast of Brazil.

It opens up a whole new world!
ReplyDeleteRegular conversations with friends and relatives far flung did seem to increase and in many cases continue after the isolation.
ReplyDeleteThank heavens for zoom!
ReplyDeleteI love using Teams and Zoom to catch up with people and to attend meetings without having to travel.Tomorrow morning I will attend a meeting that would have taken two trains and around £30 in fares to get there and back not counting the time involved in travel. That said, I am meeting a friend for coffee on Friday locally and will enjoy that too.Online church services are a real blessing for people who were once excluded by lack of mobility, transport, failing health who can now join and enjoy the act of praise and prayer together. ReplyDeleteI agree with Catriona that online Zoom services are a real blessing to many
DeleteZoom became a new tool for me too during Covid. I met a woman on a group Zoom chat and we became friends and still meet once a week in person now. Plus two friends I met at work set up a twice a month Zoom chat during Covid. We still continue the Zoom chats and meet in person for lunch and birthdays. So that is some good that came out of that awful time.
ReplyDeleteThere are times that technology is absolutely the best thing ever. Then there are times when you just can't stomach what is being said on it.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Online chatting was a wonderful tool during that time when we all had to isolate ourselves. I don't do it as much any more, though, which is a pity.
