I'm doing a low spend January and trying to eat some of the stuff squirrelled away in my freezer and cupboards, but today I felt I had to get some bits and pieces.
While I was in Lidl I got one of their Waste Not! boxes. For as long as I can remember these boxes have been £1.50 but they've recently gone up to £2. Two Whole Pounds. Anyway, I bought one and this is what I got.
That's a bag of
potatoes
One avocado,
Net of
satsumas.
Three leeks
One cauliflower
One bag of carrots
Two different
varieties of tomatoes
Bunch bananas.
Update. I have costed this at around £12 for full price vegetables.

Very good!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, I feel!
DeleteThat's a canny bit of shopping!
ReplyDeleteI can be quite a canny lass!
DeleteOur Lidl. Ever seems to have these but perhaps I just go at the wrong time. Great bargain and lots of healthy eating there. Catriona
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be quite a lot of boxes and much later in the day since the price went up.
DeleteThat was a bargain, well done.
ReplyDeleteI love a bargain!
DeleteLike Catriona, I never seem to get there at the right moment! But when I have managed it, they've been good value
ReplyDeleteCan't be faulted for value.
DeleteThe bananas can be frozen for a smoothie or baking later if need be. I see a big sheet pan dinner with all those delicious vegetables.
ReplyDeleteThe bananas will get eaten fairly soon. And I think we have similar ideas on the fate of the veggies.
DeleteThat’s amazingly good value. In NZ we have what’s called a Wonky Box - similar but around $25 =£11 or thereabouts. Our food costs are outrageous.
ReplyDeleteMargaret
I've costed it on the Tesco site and put a rough figure of £12.
DeleteLots of good things in that box. We don't have that in my city in Canada.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
As people have said above, one has to be VERY lucky to find them here.
DeleteYour fruit and veg box was an absolute bargain. Here in Australia Potatoes $5-50Kg. Tomatoes $8-90kg Bananas $4-99kg and so it goes on. I think one english pound is about two Aus dollars. We are ok but our youngest daughter and her husband have an almost 18yr old, 16yr old and twin 14 yrs old at home all students. Thankfully mum and dad both have good jobs and the kids have little jobs as well. We have a serious housing shortage for buyers and rent prices have gone through the roof. I feel for the people in low paying jobs or on a pension. From Shirley.
ReplyDeleteI feel very lucky when I find these boxes.
DeleteYou found a great bargain there! Lots of still good produce that you can eat now or freeze for later. :)
ReplyDeleteI shall start on it today.
