They're more usually called the Twelve Days of Christmas around here but in Scotland (apparently) they are also the Daft Days. There's even a poem called The Daft Days by Robert Fergusson. I've read it but can't recommend it!
They are convivial days with the New Year right in the middle. They are the time to reflect on the year which has passed and maybe make plans for the coming year. Holiday companies seem very keen for us to do this!
I am spending some time sorting my finances, sorting my cupboards, sorting my diary. I'm giving thanks for the year which has been, as I plan the year which is to come.
I'm writing thank you notes or making thank you phone calls. I'm putting away the lovely things I have been given. I am enjoying my hibernaculum.
And I plan on being very lazy. How about you?

Sorting, clearing, listmaking...
ReplyDeleteIt's the time if year to do a bit of sorting, I plan to tackle my office space, i have too much stuff I never use. Hopefully the local infant school will be able to make use of some crafting bits.
ReplyDeleteWe spent yesterday sorting our finances, discussing whether we should stay in our home or move, marking the dates of appointments and costs eg car service, MOT etc. I walked to the shops today and every estate agent was open-apparently it’s the most popular time of the year to be thinking about relocation. I think I may do some sewing today before the light fades. Also cooking beef for Thursday’s steak pie dinner although I won’t partake of it. Also want to sit down tonight and watch Goodbye June before it disappears from Netflix. Catriona
ReplyDeleteLyssa Medana commented it's like that space between the tides - slack water - that's such a good description. I'm enjoying easing myself towards 2026; a bit of sorting and tidying and planning all encouraged along with Christmas chocolates biscuits and other goodies.
ReplyDeleteI am being lazy. I am enjoying reading the books I received as Christmas presents, doing a little embroidery (when the light is good enough!) and catching up with films I wanted to watch but hadn't got around to. On New Year's Eve I will make my annual list of things that have happened during the year and on New Year's Day I will write appointments etc on my new calendar before hanging it up.
ReplyDeleteI am mostly relaxing at home, trying to regulate my blood pressure which has been wildly yo-yoing. I've a blood test scheduled for Tuesday, but, other than that, no planned activities.
ReplyDeleteI’m enjoying slowing down, today I had one of the whirlwind bambino’s for a few hours and it completely wore me out. I’ve be both thankful and thoughtful, enjoying where I am and also visualising where I want to be. It’s so easy to put so much pressure on yourself at the start of every new year but really I’m evaluating my position and being grateful before moving on. Emma - Northamptonshire
ReplyDeleteIn these in-between days we’ve had terrible gale force winds and rain so I’ve been confined indoors sorting cupboards, cleaning, and making good progress on my embroidery. Tomorrow it is sorting year end finances, making next years budget and more general pottering. I quite like these in-between days!
