The Tree

I watch other people's trees with interest as they go through the year and photograph a special specimen each month.  But this tree isn't like that.

This is a tree which lights up.  I bought it one Christmas but left it out when I packed away the other decorations.  I don't often switch on the lights but I do like to decorate it a little.  It has the usual sort of thing at Christmas, small eggs at Easter and I have recently bought these bees.  They made me smile.

I'd like to make a few things to hang on my tree but I have no idea what.  They need to be 2-4cm high and not weigh much.  Anybody got any ideas?

  1. Very cute bees! Maybe some cut out paper flowers and leaves? Or butterflies? Autumn leaves later on?

  2. Have you anything in your garden which would dry and become a natural decoration.

  3. Small pinecones would be nice in the autumn and you can buy packs of assorted small felt/fluffy balls for crafting. They come in all sorts of colours, so you could have fun mixing and matching. You could also raid your button box for a different look.

    1. I'd never thought of alder. I shall look for trees when I'm out and about.

  5. Yes, alder tiny cones and small acorns for autumn. My tree is real branches and gets covered with my own had decorated real blown eggs. A few small silk flowers would look good with the bees. The bees are cute, where did you find them?

    1. Your tree sounds lovely. I bought the bees in a local "cheap shop" but can't remember which one. They were 3 for £1.

  6. How about some fall leaves?

    1. I'll have a go but I'd have to think about how to attach them. Probably glued to ribbons.

  7. Origami cranes. Silk or paper butterflies. Little felt birds. A number of my friends have "prayer trees" - write a name or subject on a paper leaf or heart , with the date, and use it as an aide memoir. Strings of glass beads which twist and catch the light. Pretty dangly earrings [i have a jar full of singletons which lost their partners]...

    1. I hadn't thought about origami. Thank you. And charity shop earrings would be good. (I don't wear earrings myself.)

  8. I smiled when I saw the bees. Butterflies would be lovely, as would the dangling ear rings if they are able to catch and reflect the light. Felt ornaments like hearts or mushrooms could be nice as well.

    God bless.

  9. I was obsessed with making these origami stars (you have to make 5 little triangles which you stick together) last year to make a garland, out of magazine pages- that might be quite fun to make and perhaps also some leaves would be fun too.
What about saving bottle tops and making holes in them and hanging them with tiny little illustrations on them with some sort of sharpie- letters, shapes, flowers?
