Finish

Thanks for being here!  It's a long time since I posted.  I've had a bit of a tricky time struggling with depression and I really couldn't get my mind around posting.  I think I stopped using my SAD lamp too early, (i.e. when the clocks went forward) and I should have used it for at least an extra month.  The depression wasn't severe but everything seemed a huge effort.

One thing I was able to do was to knit!  I knitted various things - scarves, hats, twiddlemuffs.  What I didn't do was finish them.

Ali at Less is more has set herself the challenge of finishing.  She wants to finish cardigan she started while ill with covid, finish a domestic rearranging project, finish some decorating, finish sorting her allotment.

So, inspired by her, I too have started finishing,  Here's my first finish.  A scarf for a homeless person.  I finished the knitting months ago and this afternoon I have made the fringe.  I have three more of these to finish!

  1. Lovely scarf! Is it double thickness-have you knitted it on circular needles?

  2. Well done, I have remembered I have a cardi I started 8 years ago, just needs sewing up and the band done.. Shall I join in with you and Ali and finish it? I could but since then I've gain weight so doubt it will fit me, but a good incentive to lose weight??

  4. I love the colors you chose for the scarf, it will bless the homeless person who receives it. I am sorry your depression appeared, I will mail you a card tomorrow, we will see how long it takes to arrive. Or "if" it arrives.

  5. I love your scarf! The fringing does finish it off beautifully. Finishing things definitely lifts my mood and makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something. Hope you're feeling more like yourself again :-)

  9. What a beautiful scarf and will be a lovely gift to keep a homeless person warm. I am very guilty of startitis but not finishing. I am currently trying to use up fabric for my charity makes and hope they will raise some money. Catriona

    2. Reading back through your post and the comments made me recall when I started to knit a jumper in the school colours for my eldest son when he started at his senior school. That was in 1976 . . . . the year that my 2nd son was born.
When that 2nd son turned 10(!!!) I dug out that jumper - a back, half a front and 2 sleeves - and considered it might be a good idea to finish it in readiness for him starting senior school. I never did finish it - we moved from Leicestershire to Cornwall in 1986. No idea what happened to that bag of knitting, the pattern, wool, needles, etc.

  10. I'm so glad to see you posting again, Mary - what with Covid, its effects and continuing presence and the awful news in the media, depression seems to be widespread. Some sunshine and good news is what we need. Your colourful knitting is an excellent start; I'm tempted to splash some colours about in home. Maybe make a start on the fence in the back garden first, to see if it looks cheerful. Best wishes for a brighter future. x
