Immorality in the kitchen

Gradually, slowly, bit by bit, I am decluttering the kitchen.  It's not easy because I have to enlist the help of friends to reach some places but I am getting the feeling that I am winning.

However, there is one cupboard which still has to be tackled.  In that cupboard is a hotbed of iniquity and immorality.  It is the cupboard where I store my storage tubs.

I save all sorts of recyclables to reuse as freezer and fridge containers.  I wash them carefully and put them away but tubs breed.  What’s more, because they are creatures of no restraint, the resultant offspring are totally unpredictable and lids and tubs are produced which bear little relationship to each other.

Whilst my views on many things are liberal, I find this sort of activity in my kitchen cupboards totally unacceptable and I have therefore decided to come the heavy and impose restraints.  No longer are unmarried tubs and lids allowed into the cupboard.  They have to be stored complete or not at all.

  1. And to think that such things happen in a Vicar's kitchen cabinets! Scandalous! ;-D

  2. It's very odd how tops and bottoms never seem to go together once they've been in the cupboard a while, I'm sure they start off being OK, like you say - strange things happen in kitchen cupboards!

  3. years ago I had the same trouble with all my plastic containers and lids til my husband gave me a good sized tub on little wheels that fitted really well into one of the kitchen cupboards so now they are all stored fairly neatly I say fairly because they do have a mind of their own. Now I have another 4 of these tubs with wheels for all the bottom cupboards which are really hard to use when you are past the 80 mark, one has glass jars and lids for jams and pickles, one has other awkward cooking things like the grater the sieve and other bits and bobs and two for tinned and packet extra supplies. It all works really well just roll a tub forward and hay presto easy to use. Hope this helps you and your followers. From Shirley

  4. I dream of storing my tubs and lids on open shelves as a perfect arrangement of matched up lids and bases.....

    1. We all have our dreams. From where I'm standing, yours seems very ambitious.

    1. I wonder if you have the spare tops and bottoms for my bottoms and tops.

  7. Atta girl! We have gone from a cabinet like that, to 3 sizes, with 2-3 in each size. All with matching lids. Everything that survived last weekend's community garage sale, went to Good Will the same day. So nice to open that cabinet now!

  8. Storage containers are a slippery slope, you start with a couple and before you know it there's a whole cupboard full, and as you say, none of the lids match a container. I started over again when I moved house, I bought the Sistema brand with the clip on lids and I've found them so good. It hasn't stopped me keeping other containers when I see something that might come in handy though, haha.
