God's acre

I may be a bit weird but there are some country churchyards which I think are wonderful.  They are havens for wildlife and places of sanctuary.

Claxby is one such.  There are areas which although not manicured are neat and well maintained.  There's just a little rough space (and maybe a couple of water bottles!) around the gravestones.

Other areas have been left for the wildflowers to grow.

And just by the door there is a small bed planted with bee-and-butterfly-friendly plants.

And there's even a bench so that anyone can sit and appreciate God's Acre.

  1. That's a lovely spot. Were you there to worship on Sunday?

  2. Is that the Claxby near Market Rasen? It looks like a very happy mix of wild and tamed.

    1. Hes, that's the one. It's a lovely churchyard, rich in birdsong.

  3. All places, which allow natural flowers, etc. to grow, should be valued, and visited. They are hidden gems. Not to be missed.

There is nothing weird, about visiting a cemetery, where flora and birds, butterflies, etc., visit. What more peaceful spot, could we choose?

Thank you for the lovely photos, you share with us.

  4. How lovely - my church is in the middle of a large city so not much of a "yard" - but we have a huge cemetery in the middle of town that is a lovely spot to walk through. My mother's ashes are in the mausoleum so I find it quite peaceful to visit.
